The best way to study 'Ud is to take lessons with an 'Ud teacher. A systematic instruction method and incorporation of oral tradition methods are strongly advised qualities among teachers. This would be a more comprehensive approach to the instrument. Students would benefit a great deal from this approach and they will develop a reasonable sense of style that would lead them to more advanced training and in-depth exploration of the art form. The method of teaching that I have developed throughout my career as a composer, educator and a performer brought bout multiple technical and theoretical dimensions to the discipline. The methods that I use reach children and adults regardless of their musical background. I incorporates both modern and oral tradition methods of ear-training, rhythm, maqam theory, improvisation and extended technique for advanced students and bandleaders. Many of my students are now professional singers, performers and successful musicians. Students come from different musical styles and still can learn how to play 'Ud , sing or develop skills on their current instrument. I use instruction material that I accumulated throughout the years. Other methods written by various 'Udmasters are also incorporated in my approach.
